Ingredients:

  • 1 fresh coconut

Instructions:

1- Select a fresh, ripe coconut. You can tell if a coconut is fresh by shaking it; you should hear the sound of water sloshing inside.

2- Using a sturdy knife, carefully pierce through the soft eye of the coconut. You can use a corkscrew or screwdriver to make a hole if needed. Make sure to make a hole large enough to insert a straw or pour the coconut water out.

3- Once the hole is made, tilt the coconut over a glass or container and pour out the coconut water. You can strain it if desired to remove any bits of coconut shell or debris.

4- If you want to serve the pipas in their natural husk, you can simply insert a straw into the hole and enjoy the refreshing coconut water straight from the coconut.

5- If you prefer a more refined presentation, you can use a sharp knife to carefully trim away the outer husk of the coconut, leaving a clean, round shell. Rinse the shell under cold water to remove any debris.

6- Pour the coconut water back into the cleaned shell and serve immediately. You can garnish with a slice of lime or a sprig of mint for extra flavor and presentation.

7- Enjoy your Costa Rican Pipas on a hot day, savoring the natural sweetness and refreshing taste of fresh coconut water straight from the source!
