Ingredients:

  • 12 corn tortillas
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef or chicken
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • Optional toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, crumbled queso fresco, salsa, sour cream

Instructions:

1- In a skillet, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and sauté until softened, about 2-3 minutes.

2- Add the ground beef or chicken to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.

3- Once the meat is browned, add the ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine and let it cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

4- Warm the corn tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave until they are pliable.

5- Place a spoonful of the meat filling along one edge of each tortilla. Roll the tortillas tightly around the filling, securing them with toothpicks if necessary.

6- In a large skillet or pot, heat enough oil for frying over medium-high heat. Carefully place the rolled tacos seam side down into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.

7- Fry the tacos until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Use tongs to carefully flip them halfway through cooking.

8- Once the tacos are crispy and golden, remove them from the oil and drain them on paper towels to remove any excess oil.

9- Serve the Guatemala Tacos Dorados hot, garnished with your favorite toppings such as shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, crumbled queso fresco, salsa, and sour cream.

Enjoy your delicious homemade Guatemala Tacos Dorados!
