Ingredients:

  • 500g all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 10g instant yeast
  • 50g granulated sugar
  • 10g salt
  • 300ml cold milk
  • 250g cold unsalted butter, for laminating
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions:

Prepare the Dough:

1- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.

2- Gradually add the cold milk to the dry ingredients, mixing until a rough dough forms.

3- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Shape the dough into a ball.

Chill the Dough:

1- Wrap the dough ball in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight. This allows the dough to relax and develop flavor.

Prepare the Butter Block:

1- Place the cold unsalted butter between two sheets of parchment paper.

2- Using a rolling pin, pound and roll the butter into a flat rectangle, about 8x12 inches. Ensure the butter remains cold and pliable.

Laminate the Dough:

1- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a large rectangle, about 10x16 inches.

2- Place the butter block in the center of the dough rectangle.

3- Fold the dough over the butter, enclosing it completely. Seal the edges.

4- Roll out the dough into a long rectangle again, then fold it into thirds like a letter.

5- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes. This completes one "turn."

Repeat Lamination:

1- Remove the dough from the refrigerator and repeat the rolling and folding process (another two "turns"). Chill the dough for 30 minutes between each turn.

Shape the Croissants:

1- After completing all turns, roll out the dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.

2- Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut the dough into triangles.

3- Starting from the wide end, roll each triangle tightly to form a croissant shape.

4- Place the shaped croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each one.

5- Cover the croissants loosely with plastic wrap and let them rise at room temperature for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Bake the Croissants:

1- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

2- Brush the risen croissants with beaten egg for a shiny finish.

3- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the croissants are golden brown and flaky.

4- Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before serving.

Enjoy your homemade France Croissants fresh from the oven! Serve them warm with your favorite jam or simply enjoy their buttery goodness on their own.
